Search description function that currently has some understanding that makes some bloggers confused.
Because in Google found some articles that mention that search descriptions are no longer needed, but some mention that search descriptions are very important for an article.
Of course it becomes confusing, especially for bloggers who are learning. Confused between determining the use of search descriptions and not using search descriptions.
Search descriptions are also known as meta descriptions, because they are displayed with a meta. Simply put, a search description or search description is a short piece of text that describes the content of your blog's content.
Usually search descriptions are placed below the post title in the search results as well as in sharing posts on social media.
By making the post description brief, relevant, and easy to read, this will allow visitors to decide whether they want to click on your post link or not.
Specifically on search pages, search descriptions from meta will be displayed if the search engine does not find more relevant content from the posting page with the visitor's search keyword.
Search descriptions are not determinants of ranking on search pages, but search descriptions are part of many ranking factors on search pages. Determining the ranking on the search page of course the most important is the content of the post itself.
Especially for Google, after this time Google's robot is getting smarter reading the contents of the page including being able to read javascript files, css, and of course html, then Google can search for snippets that are more relevant to search keywords to display as search descriptions on search results pages. It can be from page content or from meta description, depending on the keywords found.
So this is what makes it seem as if Google no longer needs a search description, because Google can retrieve the description from the posting page itself.
So what needs to be understood is that search descriptions don't necessarily appear on search pages if there are no keywords relevant to the search, but search descriptions are prioritized.
But unlike search pages, sharing posts on social media will take search descriptions as post descriptions. If there is no search description, it will retrieve the text that is read from the page.
So now there are 2 choices that can be used by bloggers, namely:
- Do not use search descriptions because Google is smart at reading pages so that it can retrieve descriptions from the contents of the posts that match your search keywords. But it will look less good and not appropriate to the description of the posts that are shared on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and others.
- Using search descriptions, although they may not necessarily appear on the search page, they will look good and match the description we made for the description of the posts that are shared on social media.
Now just choose which one you will use. If you choose the second option which is to use a search description, then make the search description more relevant to the contents of the post and with the search keywords. Use relevant keywords in the search description, but don't use excessive keywords. Make a search description that remains easy to read by visitors who make visitors click on your post links.
Make the search description short and concise between 50 to 300 characters (by default the search engine will display a description of 160 characters), not the entire contents of the post included in the search description.
How, is it now clear about the description of this search?
